Post subject:  wettable sulpher

I am a mother of 6 boys, age range from 16 to 18 months. In December of 2005, we moved from Missouri. In March, my, then 3 y/o was bit by a baby copperhead. In May, I was bit by a very large water moccassin. Both bites occured within 100 ft from my front door. I immediately bought 2 bags of wettable sulpher and spread 1. Then it occured to me that may have not been the best thing for my pond. We now have Geese, ducks and ginnea's. Last year we killed 1 copperhead that was about 16 inches long, and 5 others that were babies. My boys looove snakes, and try to convince me that even venomous snakes are not evil. Well, I can tolerate snakes. My 7 year old lost track of a 5ft 7 inch rat snake while watching TV. That snake was loose IN MY HOUSE for 3 weeks! He finally came out and said, "I'm tired of hiding". The boys played with him for a couple more hours and then released him. We still see him outside ,where he belongs, from time to time. However, I will not suffer a venomous snake to live on my property! Will wettable sulpher really repell them, and if I use it, will it hurt my soil, pond, chickens and other fowl?

Great story! Sulfur might work but after about the third applicacation, your soil will fried and nothing will grow. Cedar flakes and cedar mulch seem to work fairly well and Dr. T's has a product that might be worth looking into. Guinea fowl will normally take care of the problem. Snakes also don't like cats. If all else fails, see if you can buy some blue indigo snakes. They take no snake prisoners and your kids will love them.

Post subject:  wettable sulpher & ponds

I won't use that last bag of wettable sulpher that I bought In '05. With that said however, I notice that many of my neighbors do apply it every spring. The water runnoff from their properties runs through both of my ponds. What will that do to my ponds?

Same answer. Too much of it could kill alot of living organisms.
