Post subject:  EPA outlawed corn meal & vinegar???

been trying to buy some horicultural corn meal for my fall garden for 2-3 weeks. my supplier finally found out why he can't get any, apparently the EPA has told natures guide that their label is not approved for sale and they essentially have to destroy all they have on hand and cannot sell it.
also he said that EPA has told landscapers that they can no longer use vinegar for herbicide as it,also, has not been approved for that use.
anyone else heard of this idiocy?

I just bought a pallet of 40lb corn meal bags from Soil Menders. Check them out. You're right though, I have had trouble with Nature's Guide for some reason.

Here's the deal. The EPA is saying that a company cannot package corn meal with the intent of selling as a fungicide because they don't believe it works. They believe it is an inert ingredient. Companies wishing to sell it, like Nature's Guide, had to add garlic to it and label it as a fungicide. I just got my first pallet of cornmeal from NG with the new packaging. I would think that Soil Menders would be next. Regarding Orange Oil, and even Mound Drench, it has to now be labeled as a pesticide since that's its main use. I still cannot get new shipments of orange oil or mound drench.

Sandi, so you can't sell a product that is just labeled with what is in it? The label has to state WHAT the product is used for?

No, not according to the EPA. If the corn meal is sold in the grocery store, it is assumed to be used for consumption. If sold in a nursery, the the same area as fertilizers, pesticides or fungicides, then it has to be labeled as such.
