Post subject:  Storm damage to Forest Pansy redbud

I have a Forest Pansy redbud that's been in the ground here (sugar sand soil) for 5+ years. It's a very graceful tree, but may not have the best (vigorous) branching structure.

In tonight's wind/rain storm, the tree split in the middle. I don't know whether to prune the split half off, or try to re-attach the sides of the trunk. Help!
