Post subject:  sick pecan trees?

Hi, I have 2 Pecan trees in my front yard. They were grafted with Texas 60's grafts about 62 years ago. During our recent dry weather we have kept them watered and fertilized. they have both been heavy producers. beginning last spring i noticed the bark seemed different than i remembered. the bark seems to be peeling, i believe the tree beneath the peeling bark looks unhealthy but I hope this is my Imagination. i am trying to attach some pictures of the trees I hope someone can help.

I have heard Howard talk about just how much water is needed by trees, and how a few inches on the surface is not enough to supply the needs of large trees.

His recommendation was to leave a hose running for many hours within the dripline of the tree (don't water right at the bottom of the bole, the roots are out from the tree).

You may want to look into the Sick Tree Treatment as well.

Actually we have a water well that we use just for watering, I was concerned that we may have overwatered. after reading more on this site I have become concerned we may have over done the hot, high-nitrogen, man made fertilizer and burned the tree and the life supporting soil it sits on. I now understand that there many beneficial organisims that are necessary for the trees that we may have accidentaly killed.

The sick tree treatment is your best bet, and you might want to look into an application of Zeolite.
