Post subject: | Trees for heavy clay soil? |
I'm just starting to build a house in Waco, and was wondering if anyone has suggestions for a tree that will do well in heavy clay soil. I'm just beginning my search, so all suggestions, pros, and cons are welcome. I would also welcome suggestions for planting in this type of soil. Thanks! |

I'd Pick Burr Oak, Durand Oak, Texas or Shumard Red Oak, Shatung Maple, Texas Ash, White Ash, and if you have a shady spot, there's a number of Japanese Maples that would be gorgeous. |

Thanks! A friend told me about the bigtooth Maple. Would that do well? From what I have read, it does well in most soils, but I'm not sure about clay. |

Hey- sorry took a bit to get back, Yes, big toothed Maple is a good one for your area and in that soil. It's a Texas native that has no problems with the soil and weather hereabouts. |
