My eight year old Red Oak appears to have died due to an attack of some kind of borer insect. The tree has hundreds, maybe thousands of tiny pinholes. I tried to cut away most of the branches and spray the main tree bark. I don't think I was timely in saving the tree. I searched the internet for cause and cure; not entirely sure on either. I think the tree was affected by an oak borer. Does anyone know how to save, but more importantly how to treat from happening again.
I will most likely have to plant a replacement tree(s). I am hoping to do another red oak, unless there are better suited oaks for the N.E. San Antonio area.
Thanks in advance for assistance in this frustrating loss.
