I'm planning to re-landscape my front yard. One of the things I would like to do is run a vine of some sort up my wall. Does anyone know how I can safely do this on Hardie Plank? Also, what sort of vine should I use? I live around Houston, Texas, and I would like to use natives, although I am open to other types of plants. |

Do you have sun or shade? |

It's on the North side of the house, but it gets plenty of sun. There are no trees in the way. I would put it as somewhere between partial shade and full sun. |

You could you native coral or yellow honeysuckle or a couple of colorful clematis. Go to the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower center's website and check out the native plant database. |

Would Trumpet Vine, Carolina Jessamine, or Cross-Vine work? |

Trumpet vine is incredibly invasive. Trust me, don't plant it. Cross vine is a little better. Carolina Jessamine is evergreen but it blooms in the winter months and into early spring. I, personally, prefer native plants. |

I second the remarks about trumpet vine. It is invasive and grows huge - it will topple trellises if not kept under control. It climbs trees and can strangle them, and can completely cover telephone poles. |

What if she had said that it was shade/partial shade? |
