DD, I was afraid of that about the ironite. I didn't get the warm fuzzy when I bought it, but it was the only thing I could get my hands on that weekend.

Sandih, I'm going to check the moisture in my soil again today and see where it is at and adjust watering accordingly.
I see something turning brown and crunch and I instantly think it needs water. I'm a total noob obviously.

It's just frustrating because at a our old house we had rock and yellow clay in north Fort Worth and we watered a good bit and everything thrived. (lantanas, salvia, magnolia gems, indian hawthornes) We did very little other than mulch.

Now we have the black/gray clay and planted similar things and it is doing nothing. Now we have mulch and beds planted and it is obvious we needed to condition the soil first. But now I'm trying to figure out how to do it without ripping everything out.

Maybe I should rip a section out, condition the soil with shale, green sand, etc and put the plants back in there. That would be a huge undertaking.
