Thanks Dchall for the info on fertilizing. I'll do that. I'll be aerating and applying shampoo as well in the next week or two, so that should help water absorption also. I did use the weed kill concoction. It worked well and I found the vinegar at Russell Feed Supply. |

If you paid more than about $3 for a gallon of pickling (9 or 10% vinegar) then you paid too much. Feed stores tend to have the more expensive products. I make a trip out of town every so often and visit Granbury or Alvarado or Glen Rose - anyplace with a David's Supermarket. They carry a gallon for about $2.75 a gallon last time I bought it. |

Thanks for the heads up NW'er. I'm pretty sure it was more than that. The orange oil was pricey too, but you will get a lot of use out of it. I'll have to shop around for better prices. It worked well though and I don't have to worry about breathing in Roundup. |

The orange oil goes a lot farther than the vinegar, it is used in smaller amounts. I buy that at my local feed store, I haven't found it any cheaper online or in other local venues. |

Yeah the orange oil is expensive but it will last awhile. I need to see if I can find the vinegar cheaper somewhere. Why is it that it has to the 9-10% vinegar and not just more common vinegar? |

Table vinegar is 5% acidity, and it will brown weeds a bit, but the 9-10% acidity level is what really takes out the weeds. Higher levels of acidity (20% at some feed stores and garden centers) is expensive overkill and the higher levels are usual the hydrocarbon product, not the human-consumption variety. |
