Can I use freshly shredded-not composted-leaves as mulch? I dont need that mauch brown stuff in my compost bin and I've got lots of it. I'd like to put it on my hosta beds. The leaves are mostly oak and hickory, but there is some maple and beech as well. They are chopped pretty fine.
Thanks,
jda

Yes, absolutely! Anything from your property and the nearby area is great for mulching and compost. If you can use woodchips from your own shrubs and trees also, its a great resource. I usually pick up a few extra bags of leaves, the ones my neighbors rake up and put at the curb for trash, to use in my compost and in the garden.
