This spring after a heavy rain 100's of tiny snails come out of flower beds and on to sidewalk.

Ive not noticed this in past.
What do i do?
Is it bad? What damage do they do?

They'll much lots of tender plants. Sluggo works very well on them. If you're also bothered by pill bugs, Sluggo Plus has some spinosad in it. Both snails and pillbugs are nature's cleanup crew, but when you're growing tender crops they aren't helpful.

If you want to conduct an interesting experiment one evening put a shallow bowl in the garden with an inch or so of beer. The beer has to be fresh - the carbonation may be a big part of what attracts. I do this in the yard every so often to see how many are around. In the morning you'll find a bowl full of snails who died happy.
