We are relocating our septic sprinklers and need to detox the ground where the orginal septic area was. We want to use the area for additional veg gardening. What can we use and how long before breaking ground?

I am not an expert and I am sure there are others that have better information. First I assume your aerobic system was working properly, and the final water was dosed with clorine. I too have an aerobic system and my spray field does not have any odor. the clorine is to kill any pathogens prior to spraying. First,, I would work to make the soil as biologically active and healthy as Possible. you should start with a soil sample and see what you have. I would then work to build the nutrients based on the analysis. additionally, I would use Zeolite, compost, and compost tea over the entire area. I know many people do not like to roto-till but I would till the mixture in, but I would till it in, spray with compost tea, seaweed, and molassas. I would plant a cover crop (I like clover) and then let the microbs do their work. I would wait one year and keep up with periodic spray of compost tea and seaweed. my two cents

First things first. Relocate the sprinklers first. Use a two ft. rubber pipe with an adapter on the end to move the sprinkler heads.
