I have 4 live oaks (3 native and 1 from I believe Virginia), growing in my yard. The 3 native oaks have been in place for 15+/- years & the Virginian about 6+/- years. I am unable to grow grass beneath the Virginian and the bare circle grows larger and larger each year. Shade is not a problem. Last Summer, I watered at a reasonable rate, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

It sounds as though shade is the culprit. Even St. Augustine needs a modicum of sunlight to flourish. Have you considered ground covers or mulch?

I don't find a location in your profile, so I'm not certain about specific suggetions for the ground covers.

There is more sun/less shade under the tree in question, than there is under the other 3 live oaks, where grass is growing profusely.

I'm thinking it might be a pest, or fungus.

FYI, I live in Waxahachie

I agree with the fungus. Lay in some corn meal at 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet of dead spot.

Thanks, I'll try the cornmeal.
