Keep an eye out for
squash bugs, they stunt the growth of fruit also. They look like stink bugs. The one that usually ends my squash crop is the worm called the
squash vine borer. Sometimes I can do a lengthwise slice in the stem and surgically remove them, or spray in some Bt in water. With those, one day the plant looks great, the next it drops dead, but in the meantime the fruit production drops. Keeping an eye on the plants and hand removing pests as they appear is a good start to keeping them going.
