In the forums, I have seen reference to using Milk for problems in lawns. I am looking for any information that I can get regarding its use - 'what and why' is it used, 'how' is it applied - hose end sprayer?, and if so, how many TBL per gal. setting?
I am having a 'Take-all' fungus problem in my ST. Augustine, major problem. Will milk help this problem? Do you use fresh milk or milk that is old and gone bad.
Any recommendations for what the best, most effective method(s) are for treating Take-all??
All help will be appreciated. MANY of us are having to deal with this dreaded fungus this year - some say that the extra cold winter last year is a factor in it being so bad.
I have a second question regarding a milk product - out of date yogart, does it have any benefit as either a compost item, or put in a hose-in sprayer to spray on St. Augustine. ...I do have a Take-all SA problem in my lawn.

Milk provides a liquid version of protein, vitamins, minerals, and ENZYMES. The protein, vitamins, and minerals are well known foods. The enzymes are biological catalysts which promote biological processes without being consumed or degraded. Thus a little bit of enzymes can have a lot more effect than a little bit of anything else.
To be more specific about how milk works would be guessing at this point. It makes a great food for all the microbes living on the plant surfaces and in the soil. One thing that has been reported in the scientific community is milk's ability to control certain fungal diseases. I'm not sure the mechanism by which that works is well understood.
