I have so many Japanese beetles grubs this year in my SoCal garden, I suggested to my wife we should get some recipes and start eating them. That didn't go over too well. There are small ones under mulch any time I pull it back, and if I dig I find the larger ones. I whack the flying beetles out of the air when I can to stop them from laying eggs, but it's a losing battle.
I know milky spore is recommended, but I'm not sure about it for a couple reasons. First, it's supposed to last for years, but I did a treatment 2 years ago and it hasn't seemed to work. Second, even though milky spore is claimed to be safe for all organisms other than Japanese beetle grubs, the package has extensive warnings about how hazardous it is - kind of put me off a little. Any info on that would be appreciated.
I also know that beneficial nematodes might be effective, but I'm not sure how they compare to milky spore for this pest.

Beneficial nematodes are my recommendation. The people at arbico-organics.com should be able to help you here. The phone is 1-800-SOS-BUGS.

Thanks - I'll go that route and let you know how it works.

I'm curious to know how the beneficial nematodes worked.
