BACON SUET
2 Cups Crunchy Peanut Butter
2 Cups Corn Meal
1 Cup Flour
2 Cups Fruit, Berry & Nut Birdseed*
1/2 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Oatmeal
Bacon Grease from 1lb Bacon
1 lb Bacon
Heat grease in a skillet and add peanut butter. Stir well until melted. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Put in plastic containers and store in freezer.
This is the recipe I’ve used for several years. *The 4th ingredient is kind of hard to find and expensive, so i just use 'hen scratch' which is what i usually feed outdoor birds. Also, I crush and crumble the cooked bacon and place it in the grease with the peanut butter.
I don't freeze because usually it doesn't last that long, I just store in frig. I keep it in a large container and each morning I hack at it with a fork, break up further with my fingers. And put it out with the birdseed outside (on top of 2 outdoor dining tables). I don't use the dispenser.
