Declared Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, Guanajuato is an historic city, where each of the streets has its own special significance. The name comes originally from the word “Quanashuato” which in the native Tarasco language means place where there is an abundance of frogs. |

El Pipila was built in honor of Juan Jose de los Reyes Martinez, nick-named "El Pípila", who heroically burned down the door of the Spanish stronghold Alhondiga de Granaditas on September 28, 1810, during the first battle in the Mexican War of Independence. The panoramic vista of Guanajuato from this area is spectacular by day or by night. There is a restaurant near here in the Hotel Boutique Refugio Casa Colorado.
