Hammock

Hammock hanging.

Question:
I bought my wife a hammock and have it hanging between two 10-year-old, extremely healthy crape myrtles. I have the hammock tied on one of the eight to 10 trunks of each tree. My wife will not even sit on the hammock because she thinks the weight will stress the tree and eventually kill it. Your thoughts? M.C., Azle

Answer: Your wife is more right than you are. The hammock will do some damage, maybe a considerable amount, but probably will not kill the trees. It would be better to use large metal posts as hammock supports or larger trees so that the hammock connections can be bolted to the trunks. Wrapping around the trunks is not a good idea.
