Imported Tree Better than Our Native Choice
Mexican Sycamore |
American Sycamore |
One of the most common questions I get is what is the best fast growing tree? Interesting question because most really fast growing trees are problematic, short lived, terrible trees. That category includes fruitless mulberry, most poplars, willows, Arizona ash and the oft advertised Austree. There is one exception that I wanted to point out. It's the Mexican sycamore. Not our native sycamore - the import from Mexico. It is a very fast growing tree and doesn't have any problems that we have seen so far such as the anthracnose and bacterial leaf scorch that plague our native tree when it gets stressed. I still like our American sycamore but the Mexican alternative seems to be better. Here's links to updated information on both of them.
