Iochroma

Iochroma (Iochroma spp.)

Shrubby tender perennial with large felty leaves and tubular flowers borne in clusters. Colors range from deep to pale violets, and purples to reds and whites. Very distinctive plant for summer color in full sun. I. cyaneum is the purple variety shown in the photo gallery. Related to angel trumpet but better for smaller areas. Problems include base suckers and frost. Can grow to 6-8 feet. Although this plant is listed as poisonous, hummingbirds love the nectar and not one creature or person has ever been  reported poisoned by it.
