A Wisconsin-based organic watchdog group says Wal-Mart is hanging signs that say "organic" near products that are not organic. After discovering the problem at dozens of stores in several states, the Cornucopia Institute has filed consumer fraud complaints with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Wisconsin's Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection...
The Organic Consumers Association has called for a boycott of Wal-Mart, not just because of the misplaced signs, but because it sells milk from two Colorado-based companies, Horizon Organic Dairy, owned by Dean Foods, and Aurora Organic Dairy, which supplies milk for private labels in grocery stores. The Minnesota-based group says these organic producers get most of their milk from factory farms where cows rarely, if ever, see a pasture. Both dairies have said they comply with USDA guidelines...
