PACHYSANDRA (Japanese spurge)
Pachysandra terminalis (pack-eh-SAND-drah term-eh-NAH-lus)


Height 6″ - 8″ groundcover Spacing 9″ - 12″


 
HABIT:  Low-growing evergreen groundcover, spreads by underground stems (rhizomes). Does best in highly organic soils in deep shade.
 
CULTURE:  Plant in well-prepared, shaded area. Needs lots of organic material, good drainage, ample water and fertilizer. Zones 4 - 7.
 
USES:  Groundcover for small areas in heavy shade, interesting foliage texture.
 
PROBLEMS:  Summer heat. Also doesn’t like our alkaline soils. Leaf blight, scale, nematodes.
 
NOTES:  Native to Japan.
