Root Ball Broken by Wind
Question from Dallas: Q: About two weeks ago, we planted a 6" live oak . Then the wind storm came and blew the tree over and the root ball broke. We replanted and staked it, but the leaves fell off. Is there anything we can do to save it?
A: Sounds like the tree had a weak root ball from the start. All you can do at this point is stake the tree through next spring, then remove the stakes and see if it can make it. Use some Garrett Juice or aerated compost tea as a drench for root stimulation. The product called Bio S.I. could also help.
