SPCA Pet Adoption, December 7, 2017

From previous features:  Darcy, Lady, Mojo, Wilbur and Oreo are still waiting for their forever homes.

Here is this week’s dog from McKinney: Rex

Meet Rex, an athletic, 1 ½-year-old, black Labrador Retriever mix weighing 75-pounds. He came to the SPCA of Texas on November 9 when he was transferred in from another shelter to search for a new home. Could that be with you? He’s energetic, enthusiastic, playful and very friendly. He loves playing with toys, going for walk, treats and games of fetch. Rex is pretty talented – he can sit on command and is a pro at catching the tennis ball while playing fetch. He’d love to have a home with a big backyard for him to run in and a family who will give him playtime every day. Due to his size and energy, he may do best in a home without small children. Rex has been neutered, microchipped and has received all age-appropriate vaccinations. His adoption fee is only $50, so come meet him today!

Rex is waiting for you at the SPCA of Texas' Russell H. Perry Animal Care Center in McKinney at 8411 Stacy Road. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and noon to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Regular adoption fees are $100 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months, $50 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older, $25 for senior dogs or cats aged 7 years and older and $25 for VIP dogs and cats (available for adoption for 30 days or more.) Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetPlan, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a free year-long subscription to Activ4Pets, a rabies tag and a free leash. Call 214-742-SPCA (7722) or visit today.

Still waiting for a home: Darcy

Meet Darcy, a very sweet 2.5-year old, 37-lb black Pit Bull mix. You can call her the Cuddler! Start petting her and she'll lean all her weight into you or curl up and put her head on your knee. She really likes ear massages. If you stop paying attention to her, she'll nudge your hand to make sure you don't forget about her. She likes treats and will sit when you ask her to. She prefers to hog all of the human attention vs. sharing it, so she might do best in a home without other dogs. Darcy has been spayed, microchipped and have received all age-appropriate vaccinations. Don't delay - come see her today! #149006

Still waiting for a home: Lady

Meet Lady, a 6-year-old, black and brown merle Catahoula mix weighing 41-pounds. She was surrendered to the SPCA of Texas on October 14 to search for a new family. She is pretty shy at first, but once she gets to know you, she is a total love! She’ll sit in your lap, nuzzle up and shower you with kisses. She adores head scratches, and will push her head into your hand to ask for more. She’s not a fan of loud noises, strangers or too much activity, so she would do best in a home without children under 10. She can be picky about her dog friends, so if you have another dog at home, please bring them to meet her to make sure they get along. She walks well on her leash, is housetrained and is great at playing fetch. She’s a well-mannered girl looking for a calm home where she can cuddle up and share her love. If you’re looking for a sweet girl to hang out with, she’s the one for you! Lady has been spayed, microchipped and has received all age-appropriate vaccinations. Come meet this lovely Lady today! #111503

Still waiting for a home:  Mojo

Meet Mojo, a 6-year-old, black Labrador Retriever mix weighing 62-pounds. He’s a big guy with big heart to match! He was surrendered to the SPCA of Texas on September 23 due to some unrealistic expectations and no fault of his own. He loves attention from people, going for walks and treats, of course! He’s loyal, intelligent, friendly and loving. He knows how to sit on command and is great at playing fetch. He’s a ladies man, and he’d love to find a special lady that he can love and protect for the rest of his days. He can be picky about his dog friends, so if you have another dog at home, please bring them to meet him to make sure they get along. Mojo has been neutered, microchipped and has received all age-appropriate vaccinations. Take him home today and help him get his mojo back! #148965

Still waiting for a home: Wilbur

Meet Wilbur, a fun-loving, 4-year-old, male Cane Corso mix weighing 72-pounds. This hunky guy is a real handsome fellow, with a silvery blue coat and a winning smile – just one look at him, and you won’t be able to resist giving him attention. He came to the SPCA of Texas in May when he was rescued by an Animal Cruelty Investigator. He was adopted, but later returned due to unrealistic expectations at no fault of his own. Now, he’s hoping to find the perfect family to take him home. He is very energetic, loves being outside, going for walks and playing with toys. He takes his playing pretty seriously, so he may do best in a home without small children or pets so he doesn’t accidentally hurt someone with his big, goofy self. Since being in the shelter, he has been working on learning some new skills like walking well on a leash, having good doggie manners and performing commands for treats. Because of his unknown past and high energy, he’ll need a patient family who will be willing to help him become the best dog he can be – he knows he can do it! If you’re looking for a running buddy, hiking partner or friend to play fetch with, he’s the guy for you!! If you have another large dog at home, you can bring them to meet him and see if they make a good match. Wilbur has been neutered, microchipped and has received all age-appropriate vaccinations. Come meet him today, and he’ll be sure to show you a great time! #154325

Still Waiting for a Home:  Oreo

Meet Oreo, a 6-year-old, mostly black Shepherd mix weighing 61-pounds. He came to the SPCA of Texas on July 7 through a compliance rescue case. When the SPCA of Texas' Animal Cruelty Investigators found him, he was scared and in terrible shape. He has beautiful blue and brown eyes and tiny flecks of grey and white on his face, giving him a cookies and cream coloring. While his skin issues have been treated, he is still missing fur and naked in a lot of places, but he’s working on growing his hair back. Don't laugh, according to Chinese crested dogs, this is totally a thing! He can be a bit barky at the shelter, but it is just his way of asking for attention, as he is learning that people equal great things like treats, squeaky voices and taking him outside to play! He can be a little shy when it comes to handling, but he warms up quickly. He loves other dogs, so he would make a lovely companion for dogs and humans alike for someone that is willing to offer him time and patience. Oreo has been neutered, microchipped and is current on all age-appropriate vaccinations. He is heartworm positive, but thanks to generous donors, his treatments will be FREE at any Metroplex-area VCA Animal Hospital. Come meet him today! #155730
