SPCA Pet Adoption, January 12, 2025

The SPCA of Texas Dallas Animal Care Center is open for adoptions every day from noon to 6:00 PM. Animals are available by walk-in on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are also available for select animals. Animals at the Jan Rees-Jones building don't need an appointment. Some of the SPCA dogs up for adoption are temporarily housed in the Russell E. Dealey Rescue Center. This overflow area for adoptable animals is nearby but is accessible by appointment only. Please browse available animals at spca.org/findapet and visit spca.org/dogadopt to inquire about a dog or spca.org/catadopt to inquire about a cat.

These adult dogs and adult cats are at the SPCA of Texas' Dallas Animal Care Center and our Ellis County Animal Care Center (2570 FM Road 878, Waxahachie, TX).  Adoptions are sponsored by the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center. There's one exception—when a senior adopts a senior pet, age seven or older the adoption fee is waived. Puppies and kittens under the age of six months are $150. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of MetLife Insurance, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.

Thanks to Hill's Pet Nutrition, the SPCA of Texas is offering free adoptions for adult dogs and cats (those six months and over) and $50 adoptions for puppies and kittens (those under six months) through Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025. Also, senior citizens (over 65) can adopt any senior animal (over age 7) for free! Starting Monday, January 13 through Friday, January 31, pick your adoption price at both SPCA shelters (in Dallas and Waxahachie).

Looking for a new home: Sammie

Meet Sammie, a lovely pure-white Siberian husky with stunning blue eyes. At 18 months she's a big pup and may grow a bit more. Now she is 55 pounds. This dog is intelligent, eager to learn, is energetic and playful but gentle, and is good with children under 12 and with other dogs. She's a cuddler when the occasion arises. Sammie is one of the dogs available for the "foster-to-adopt" program, to take her home and see how she fits with other dogs and the family. Email foster@spca.org to learn about that possibility. It's always a good idea to bring down other dogs and children to meet any animal you plan to foster or adopt. Sammie is at the Dallas Animal Care Center (2400 Lone Star Drive, 75212) so no appointment is needed to meet her. See her profile here: https://spca.org/adoptable/sammie/.

The adoption specials this month are the Hills Pet Nutrition promotion that ends on Sunday, Jan. 12, where adult cats and dogs are adopted free. Kittens and puppies cost $50. Starting Monday, January 13 through Friday, January 31, pick your adoption price at both SPCA shelters (in Dallas and Waxahachie).

Tyler, Galvin, Ariel, Patrick, Little Bear, and Oompa are still waiting for their forever homes.

Still looking for a new home: Tyler

Meet Tyler, a puppyish four-year-old terrier mix. He is 56 pounds and has a smooth short tan and white coat, expressive ears and tail, and a great smile. He's good with children under 12 and other dogs and walks well on a leash. As always, we advise that you take family members and other dogs down to meet any pooch you consider adopting. Tyler is in foster care now, so an appointment is needed to meet him. Use the link here and request a visit. Link to Tyler's profile and make an appointment to meet him.

Still looking for a new home: Galvin

Meet Galvin, an American Blue Heeler mix who is almost two years old and 49 pounds. He has a merle or marbled coat with tan and white accents and the classic blue heeler face mask (dark over his eyes). Galvin is friendly, gentle, and loving with people, is good with kids under 12 and other dogs, and is in need of a foster or foster-to-adopt situation. It's always a good idea to bring the family and dogs down to meet any dog you're considering adopting. His adoption fee is $75 and he is at the Dallas Animal Care Center, so come by any day of the week between Noon and 6 p.m. to meet him. Here is his profile at the SPCA.

Still looking for a new home: Ariel

Meet Ariel, a six-year-old shepherd-mix who has a calm demeanor. Her white and light-brown coat is medium length and she has alert ears. It looks like she has a dark tongue, so there may be some chow in the mix. Ariel is 46 pounds and loves leisurely strolls, naps, and spending time with people. She is good with children under 12-years and with other dogs. Ariel at the SPCA of Texas Dallas Animal Care Center, located at 2400 Lone Star Drive, so can be visited any day from noon to 6pm. It is always a good idea to bring the family and other dogs down to meet any animal you consider adoption. See her profile at https://spca.org/adoptable/ariel/.

Still looking for a new home: Luca

Meet Luca, a 35-pound seven-month-old boxer-terrier pup. He is a typical pup: energetic, affectionate, curious, sweet, and a fast-learner. He apparently is a very good snuggler who gives good kisses. Luca is well-mannered and good with kids under 12-years and with other dogs. He is housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so you’ll need an appointment to meet him, and you can find a link for an appointment on his profile at https://spca.org/adoptable/lexter/.

Still looking for a new home: Patrick

Meet Patrick, a big pup with a striking short red coat with white highlights. At 1 1/2 years Patrick is a survivor; he is a tripod (one leg amputated) who gets around super well and is always ready to explore the world on leashed walks (he is very good at walks!) and is good with children under 12 years and other dogs. Patrick is 57 pounds and may be growing a bit more. He loves spending times outdoor and when he's around people he loves to be the center of attention. Bring the kids and other dogs down to meet him at the Dallas Animal Care Center (always a good idea when considering adopting a new pet). Find his profile at the SPCA of Texas here.

Still looking for a new home: Little Bear

Meet Little Bear, a senior shepherd/chow chow mix who is 47 pounds of playful curiosity mixed with a love of calm and quiet people. He would be best as the only dog in the home, but if you have a calm dog, bring it down for a meeting. No mention of small children or not (bring them to the meeting also). Little Bear is ten years old with a beautiful medium golden coat, fluffy tail, and dark eyes, and he likes slow walks and just hanging out with his people. It would be best if it is someone home most of the day. He is at the Dallas Animal Care Center so no appointment is needed to meet him. His profiles can be found at https://spca.org/adoptable/little-bear/.

Still looking for a new home: Oompa

Meet Oompa, a lovable and goofy two-year-old mixed breed dog, searching for his perfect forever home! This charming 68-pound boy is a bundle of joy and silliness, guaranteed to fill your life with laughter and happiness. Oompa's unique journey began when he was found as a stray, seeking refuge under a house alongside 12 other dogs. Despite his rough start, Oompa's resilient spirit shines through, and he's now ready to embark on a new chapter of his life with a loving family by his side. He is in a foster home, so an appointment is needed to meet him. Despite his previous hardships, Oompa is great with other dogs, showcasing his ability to be a wonderful companion to furry siblings. He will be good with human siblings, too! With a little patience and love, Oompa's potential knows no bounds. Visit Oompa’s profile at https://spca.org/adoptable/oompa/ and click on the "Make an Appointment" button. Oompa's team will set everything up from there.
