SPCA Pet Adoption, March 24, 2024

The SPCA of Texas Dallas Animal Care Center is open for adoptions every day from noon to 6:00 PM. Animals are available by walk-in on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are also available for select animals. Animals at the Jan Rees-Jones building don't need an appointment. Some of the SPCA dogs up for adoption are temporarily housed in the Russell E. Dealey Rescue Center. This overflow area for adoptable animals is nearby but is accessible by appointment only. Please browse available animals at spca.org/findapet and visit spca.org/dogadopt to inquire about a dog or spca.org/catadopt to inquire about a cat.

These adult dogs and adult cats are at the SPCA of Texas’ Dallas Animal Care Center and our Ellis County Animal Care Center (2570 FM Road 878, Waxahachie, TX).  Adoptions are sponsored by the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center. There’s one exception—when a senior adopts a senior pet, age seven or older the adoption fee is waived. Puppies and kittens under the age of six months are $150. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of MetLife Insurance, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.

Looking for a new home: Texas

Meet Texas, a beefy boy with the dappled red coat of an Australian Cattle dog mix. This four-year-old is 60 pounds and is shy and cautious at first but is considered to be sweet by the SPCA staff, who are recommending a foster-to-adopt situation for him. That will give whoever he stays with the time for patience to let Texas settle in. He's good with other dogs and with children under 12. As is always recommended, anyone considering the foster-to-adopt program should bring the kids and dogs at home down to meet him. Texas is at the Dallas Animal Care Center so an appointment isn't needed to meet him. Here is Texas' profile at the SPCA.

The good news this week: Harriet and Peter Pan went out via Foster-to-Adopt last week and this week were adopted by those families! Pirate, Bentley, Petey, Jan, KJ, Chata, Powder, Barnabas, Vaca, Caido, Daisy, Diamond, and Oompa are still waiting for their forever homes.

Still looking for a new home: Pirate

Meet Pirate, a medium-sized (45 pounds) two-year-old retriever mix. He has a sleek black coat and large pointy ears and is a quick learner. He walks well on a leash, is good with kids under 12 and with other dogs, and is reported to be an affectionate snugglebug. Pirate is housed at the Russell Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so an appointment is needed to meet him. His profile is on the SPCA at https://spca.org/adoptable/pirate/.

Still looking for a new home: Bentley

Meet Bentley, a 6 1/2-year-old Boxer mix who has a short brindle coat and a warm and friendly demeanor. He is an affectionate 60 pounds who is good with other dogs and children under 12. He's very social and would be good for either an individual or a family. There are no requirements listed as far as yard or fence or apartment versus house. It is always a good idea to bring the family and pets down to meet any animal you're considering adoption. Bentley is at the Dallas Animal Care Center so no appointment is needed to meet him. You can see his profile at https://spca.org/adoptable/bentley/.

Still looking for a new home: Petey

Meet Petey, a large white with brindle-brown patches mixed breed (looks a short coat and a mix of pitbull and some retriever and cattledog) and soulful eyes. At three-years-old  and 59-pounds he is full-sized and is out of all of his puppy stages. The shelter description says he is a loyal and gentle pooch who is good with other dogs. He is shy yet curious, but we don't know about how he is with small children, so as always when considering a dog to adopt take your current dogs and children to the shelter to meet him. Petey is at the Dallas Animal Care Center, and to see his profile visit https://spca.org/adoptable/petey/. Through the rest of February adult dogs and cats are $25 in the "True Love Has Paws" promotion.

Still looking for a new home: Jan

Meet Jan, a black and white mixed breed (mostly pitbull) seven-month-old affectionate pup. She's 29 pounds now but is listed as a large dog because when full grown she will probably be over 44 pounds. So far she hasn't met other dogs at the SPCA but she doesn't mind the puppies that walk past her kennel. Jan was born with a heart condition but it doesn't hold her back from play and wanting snuggles. The SPCA will discuss her health with potential adopters. There is no preference listed as far as type of home (whether house with a yard or apartment) and they think she will get along with other pets and small children. As always, bring family members and pets down to the shelter to meet before adopting. She is housed at the Dallas Animal Care Center, and to see her profile visit here: https://spca.org/adoptable/jan/.

Still looking for a new home: KJ

Meet KJ, a fun-loving 42-pound mixed breed (mostly pitbull) mix. This black and white female walks well on a leash, loves to ride in the car, plays well with other dogs, and loves people. Small children and dogs in the family are ok - but always bring them down to meet the new animal before a final adoption. KJ has been on a couple of outside visits in the "Borrow-A-Buddy" program and one of the foster handlers said that after pulling a little at the first of the walk she settled in and stayed with her human. KJ is housed at the Russell Dealey Animal Rescue Center so an appointment is needed to meet her. Visit https://spca.org/adoptable/kj/ to see her profile.

Still looking for a new home: Chata

Meet Chata, a 2-year-old mixed breed white with black short-haired female who loves dogs and toys. It isn't known if she is comfortable with small children, but kids over 12-years should be fine. She is cuddly and playful and has a great smile and bright eyes. At 2-years old and 51 pounds Chata is full grown. She is housed at the Russell Dealey Animal Rescue Center so an appointment is needed to meet her, and please bring the whole family, kids and dogs, down to meet her before an adoption is final. Her profile and photos can be found at https://spca.org/adoptable/chata/.

Still looking for a new home: Powder

Meet Powder, a 21-pound 6-year-old black and white male Chihuahua-mix who had a rough start but since arriving at the SPCA he has make a lot of progress, and in this instance, he would do best in a home with another small dog so he can learn how to be a family dog from another pet. He would be best with children over 12, and as usual, it is best to bring the whole family and the dogs down to meet him before a final adoption. His profile can be found at https://spca.org/adoptable/powder/, and you can see in his photos that he has a happy little face and a great smile.

Still looking for a new home: Barnabas

Meet Barnabas, a four-year-old mix of American pit, bulldog, and terrier. At 65 pounds he has a blonde coat, yellow eyes, a sweet disposition, and is a social friendly pooch. When he arrived at the Russell Dealey Rescue Center he was fearful, but has come around to enjoying people in general, other dogs, and small children. He would be happy to join a family with other dogs. He has skills and learns well, especially responding to the offer of treats. Make an appointment at this link to meet Barnabas. Be sure to bring down the dogs and kids to meet him. His adoption fee is $75.

Still looking for a new home: Vaca

Meet Vaca, a two-year-old 70-pound Siberian Husky mix who was pretty timid when he arrived at the Russell Dealey Animal Rescue Center. He has learned that new people and new dogs aren't so scary, but it still pays to give him a little time to relax when you first meet him. They don't know how he is with small children and with your dogs, so as with any other pets available for adoption at the SPCA, take kids and dogs down to meet the dog you're considering adopting. Vaca's profile is at https://spca.org/adoptable/vaca/ and from this page you can click the "make an appointment" button to set up a meeting. Vaca's adoption fee is $75, but through the end of November, adoption fees for adult dogs and adult cats are waived.

Still looking for a new home: Caido

Meet Caido, a three-year-old male Shepherd dog mix. He's 74 pounds with a tan coat and white toes. He enjoys attention and treats, but there isn't a lot of information about him. He's okay with younger children and dogs, but Caido is at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center so an appointment is needed to meet him. Children under 10 and family dogs should come down to visit him before an adoption plan is made. To meet Caido, click on the "Make an appointment" button on his profile link here. Caido's adoption fee is $75.

Still looking for a new home: Daisy

Meet Daisy, a 7-year-old retriever/Labrador mix. She has a sleek black coat with white tips on her toes and tail, and white patches on her chest and neck. At first, Daisy might seem shy, but she loves to go for walks and responds very well to the offer of treats. She is also initially shy with other dogs but soon adjusts, and she likes children under the age of twelve. Bring the family, including the dogs, down to the shelter to meet Daisy, to be sure they get along. Daisy is currently housed in the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so a prior appointment is necessary to meet her. Visit her profile at https://spca.org/adoptable/daisy/ and follow the "make an appointment" link to meet her. Daisy has been spayed, microchipped, and has had all her age-appropriate vaccines, and since she is a senior, she is part of the "Seniors for Seniors" program - if you are 65 or older and adopt a senior cat or dog, the adoption is free.

Still looking for a new home: Diamond

Meet Diamond, a dynamic and spirited two-year-old pup searching for her forever home! This 49-pound beauty boasts a charming tan coat with adorable white paws and a touch of white on her nose. With her playful demeanor and intelligent nature, Diamond smart and sweet and is the ideal companion for an active and loving family. She loves playing with other dogs and gets along with kids; however, it’s important to bring siblings—dog and human—to meet her before taking Diamond home. What sets Diamond apart is her exceptional intelligence and eagerness to learn. She'd make an excellent running partner or hiking buddy. Diamond is waiting for her forever family at the SPCA of Texas Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so a prior appointment is necessary to meet her. Check out her profile.

Still looking for a new home: Oompa

Meet Oompa, a lovable and goofy two-year-old mixed breed dog, searching for his perfect forever home! This charming 68-pound boy is a bundle of joy and silliness, guaranteed to fill your life with laughter and happiness. Oompa's unique journey began when he was found as a stray, seeking refuge under a house alongside 12 other dogs. Despite his rough start, Oompa's resilient spirit shines through, and he's now ready to embark on a new chapter of his life with a loving family by his side. He is in Dallas at the Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so an appointment is needed to meet him. Despite his previous hardships, Oompa is great with other dogs, showcasing his ability to be a wonderful companion to furry siblings. He will be good with human siblings, too! With a little patience and love, Oompa's potential knows no bounds. Visit Oompa’s profile at https://spca.org/adoptable/oompa/ and click on the "Make an Appointment" button. Oompa's team will set everything up from there.
