SPCA Pet Adoption, March 19, 2023

The SPCA of Texas Dallas Animal Care Center is open for adoptions every day from noon to 6:00 PM. Animals are available by walk-in on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are also available for select animals. Animals at the Jan Rees-Jones building don't need an appointment. Some of the SPCA dogs up for adoption are temporarily housed in the Russell E. Deally Rescue Center. This overflow area for adoptable animals is nearby but is accessible by appointment only. Please browse available animals at spca.org/findapet and visit spca.org/dogadopt to inquire about a dog or spca.org/catadopt to inquire about a cat.

The SPCA of Texas is running an adoption special with $25 for adult dogs and cats. Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.

Looking for a new home: Tonks

Meet Tonks, a dog that can put a smile on your face with just a goofy grin! If this is what you want, Tonks is the dog for you! This is 5-year-old Terrier, Pit Bull mix that just edges into the large dog category at 46 pounds. She has a classic brown coat with white underneath. Tonks isn’t a shy girl. She loves to meet new people and goes crazy for a great toy. She does very well with other dogs and kids too. Bring everyone down to the shelter for a meet-and-great before adopting. Tonks is currently housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center so a prior appointment is necessary to meet her in person.

From previous features: Fonzi and Minerva were adopted!! MaiGai, Brandy, Lucky, Charm, Pickles, Rosalina, Wedge, Leo, Apollo, Freeway, Chance, Miles, Deena, Jimbob, Tanner Rose, and Peanut are still waiting for their forever homes.

Still looking for a new home: Henry

Meet Henry, who is actually one of the newest guests at the SPCA of Texas, but he is an older dog who needs to get into a foster or foster-to-adopt arrangement soon. Henry is a 50-pound Basset Hound/Retriever mix who has been a good doggie in every respect, but his owner who had raised him from a puppy became very ill and could no longer care for him. He is used to other dogs, though he prefers the calmer ones since he is well past his silly puppy days. Henry is good for a stroll or some light yard-romping. He’s also good at just chilling out and being good company. Call the foster team and ask about Henry today.

Still looking for a new home: MaiGai

Meet MaiGai, a big ole’ German Shepherd mix hoping to find a good forever home with the SPCA of Texas. MaiGai has the classic shepherd coat with big, rounded ears. He is just under the 100-pound mark and is almost 9-and-a-half years old now. Don’t let his age fool you, he still has a good bit of pep in his step. He does enjoy a good romp in the play yard or a brisk stroll about if a walk is on the agenda. MaiGai came to the SPCA of Texas as a stray at the very end of 2022. He is now housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center so a prior appointment is necessary to meet him.

Still looking for a new home: Brandy

Meet Brandy, a 56-pound little lump of love. Brandy is a Pittie mix who has been patiently waiting for a forever family to adopt her at the SPCA of Texas. Eight-year-old Brandy is a little snuggler and loves getting lots of attention (a few tasty treats would be greatly appreciated too). Get her out in a play yard and you’ll find she has plenty of energy to keep up and play with her people friends and other dogs. She does well with kids too, so bring the whole family down to the shelter to meet her. Brandy would love to have a big, fenced-in yard, but a low traffic apartment could work too. Come meet her!

Still looking for a new home: Lucky

Meet Lucky! He is one handsome chap looking for a forever home with the SPCA of Texas. Lucky has all kinds of mixed breeds going on, and he thinks it makes him somewhat of a renaissance man. He weighs 60 pounds and is covered with a tan coat and a white underside. He is nearing 8 years of age and cannot wait to finally settle down. He came to the SPCA of Texas as part of an animal cruelty case in Van Zandt County. He is hoping for a calm home, a nice yard, and a family with all members over 15 years of age. He is in foster care now, so a prior appointment is necessary to meet him.

Still looking for a new home: Charm

Meet Charm, who is a charmer for sure. Charm is a big guy, but he's got a heart of gold. He's a 100-pound German Shepherd mix who is over 12 years old now. He has the regal coat of his breed, and his majestic brown eyes finish a classic look. Charm came in to the SPCA of Texas as a stray, so not much is known about his previous life. While Charm more than likely was quite the athlete in his younger days, today he is more fond of naps and snuggling. Charm is available as a foster-to-adopt as he does have some joint problems which will require treatment which the SPCA of Texas will cover.

Still looking for a new home: Monica

Meet Monica, who is one sweet and happy dog. Monica is a Shepherd mix with a full coat of almost ginger hair. She is 8 years old and weighs in at a healthy 69 pounds. Monica is super energetic, blazing a trail around the play yard. She is more than happy to let humans join in on the frolicking if they feel so inclined. There is a bit of a warm-up period as Monica tends to be a little on the shy side at first meeting, but once proper introductions are made, her playful side comes out quick. Bring all pets and family to the shelter to meet her. She is housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so a prior appointment is necessary to meet her in person.

Still looking for a new home: Pickles

Meet Pickles! You might say that is a goofy name for a dog, but when you meet him, you might find it fits. Pickles is a Labrador Retriever mix who is only 2 years old and is hoping for a forever family while he waits at the SPCA of Texas. He has a golden coat and weighs a hefty 64 pounds. He loves to run and exercise and play with humans. His eyes light up when he realizes it is time to go and play. Pickles also enjoys just ambling about the town on walks. He is a very sociable guy. Pickles gets along well with other dogs and seems to do well with children. He's not too picky about what kind of home he goes to as long as love is abundant there. Find Pickles at the Jan-Rees Jones Animal Care Center.

Still looking for a new home: Rosalina

Meet Rosalina, a beautiful female Pittie mix available for adoption at the SPCA of Texas. She is almost 8 years old and thinks it is high time that she settles down with a loving forever family. She weighs 46 pounds and is covered by a light tan coat of fur. Rosalina does well with other dogs and seems to like children as well. She is a bit of a snuggle bug, so extra hugs and pets go a long way with this girl. Bringing a few treats along will just be icing on the cake. Rosalina came to the SPCA of Texas in January after a bit of a rough start in life. Her spirits have remained high, and she is a perfect pooch for anyone who wants a happy furry friend in the home.

Still looking for a new home: Wedge

Meet Wedge, a Labrador Retriever mix waiting for a forever home with the SPCA of Texas. Wedge is 3 years old, and he’s sort of a big guy at 71 pounds. He’s got a rather smashing short coat of dark brown over white fur. Wedge is a friendly enough guy, but might be a little unsure of meeting a new person for the first time. After proper introductions, Wedge’s playful side comes out. He likes to go for walks, play ball or just frolic around the play yard. Wedge came to the SPCA of Texas in October as a stray, and is hoping to leave the shelter as a loved member of a new family. Wedge is housed at the SPCA of Texas Ellis County Animal Care Center. It is open Tuesday-Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.

Still looking for a new home: Mad Eye Moody

Meet Mad Eye Moody, a German Shepherd mix and a fun guy to hang out with. Named after a wizard in the Harry Potter series, he can cast a spell on any over of Shepherds. Unfortunately, Mad Eye had to have one of his eyes removed in emergency surgery after being taken in by the SPCA of Texas. He has since gotten past that setback and is ready to live a happy, healthy life with a loving forever family. He is just over 3 years of age and weighs in at 67 pounds. He’s got the classic black-over-tan coat of his breed. He is super energetic, but a well-behaved boy. He knows some basic commands and is eager and able to learn a lot more. Mad Eye Moody is housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so a prior appointment is necessary to meet him.

Still looking for a new home: Leo

Meet Leo, a mixed breed dog waiting for his forever home at the SPCA of Texas. Leo has white fur with brown spots, including the proverbial patch over one eye on his face. He’s a big boy at 65 pounds and he is just over 3 years old. Leo is a friendly enough guy, but he needs a slow introduction. He came to the SPCA of Texas from an animal cruelty case and has made great strides and looks forward to fun times ahead, and a home with a calm environment would give him a sense of security for the transition. He’s good with kids over the age of 5, and does well with other dogs too. Leo is currently housed at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary to meet him in person.

Still looking for a new home: Apollo

Meet Apollo, who came to the SPCA of Texas in an animal cruelty seizure prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, was fostered and has subsequently been waiting for his forever home for more than three years. For almost two of those years there were no adoption events to showcase this wonderful fella. He’s come a very long way following his rough start in life and is now the most fun guy, the sweetest boy and the biggest ham you can imagine, often modeling for photo shoots with his foster with all four legs in the air or cuddling in his cozy bed. His biggest hope is to be adopted, finally, into his forever home. Apollo has legendary ears and a goofy smile to go along with them. He is a mixed breed pooch who weighs in at 51 pounds with black fur and white highlights about his snoot. He’s an active guy who likes to trot about and do some serious rolling in the grass. He would be best as the only dog in a home with children over the age of 13. A prior appointment is necessary to meet him and he is available through a foster-to-adopt program.

Still looking for a new home: Freeway

Meet Freeway! He is an American Blue Heeler mix available for adoption from the SPCA of Texas. Freeway is just under 2 years of age and weighs in at 51 pounds. He has white, speckled fur with big black patches and a cute little tan mask around his eyes. His perky ears snap to attention as he explores his surroundings and takes in the goings-on of the doggie play yards at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center. Freeway came to the SPCA of Texas as an animal cruelty seizure in Van Zandt County. It has taken him a little bit of time to regain his trust in humans, but now gets excited when the leash comes out, because he knows he gets to go outside! Freeway is ready to try his luck at a new forever home with a loving family. He’d be even more excited if there was another dog involved.

Still looking for a new home: Molly

Meet Molly, a 4-and-a-half year old mixed breed dog who tips the scales at 77 pounds. She has a short black coat, with a tiny bit of white thrown in the mix. Molly is a large dog, but she believes she is a cuddly pup. She is not one for high octane frolicking, instead she is more of a chill character. She will occasionally prance about the yard or get a bit excited when she sees an old friend, but Molly likes to take it easy and enjoy life one day at a time. She is a curious explorer who likes to sniff out all the comings and goings in the neighborhood. More than anything, she likes attention from her favorite person, and a few tasty treats thrown in are appreciated too. Molly generally does well with other dogs, so bring in any four-legged friends to meet her prior to adoption.

Still looking for a new home: Chance

Meet Chance! If by chance a Hound is in order at your house, Chance is your guy. He is a young dog at 4 years of age, and he weighs in at 64 pounds. He is an energetic Hound at that, and loves to engage in serious zoomies around the play yard. He is a sucker for tasty treats and will do his best happy dance to get them. Chance has done extremely well playing with other dogs at the shelter so he may be a great choice for a second dog. Bring any potential furry siblings to the shelter to meet him in advance. Simply due to his size and energy level, it is advisable that any children in the home be at least 12 years of age or older. Bring the entire family down to the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center to meet him, and there is a good chance he will be more than thrilled to meet them.

Still looking for a new home: Miles

Meet Miles, who is large at almost 80 pounds, and is a big mix of Great Dane and Labrador Retriever. He is also 10-and-a-half years old and is already familiar with basic commands and is also housebroken. Miles has a coat of black fur, with white trim on the underside and tips of his paws. For an older dog, Miles is still quite active. He loves to get out and exercise, getting in a bit of a run, roll in the grass and sometimes a messy jump into a mud puddle if one is available. Inside he can be quite the lap dog, snuggling on the couch with his favorite human. He has an overall calm disposition and is quite the loyal friend. Miles does like to be the center of attention, and it would be best if he was the only pet in the home. All children in the home should be at least 12 years of age, and of course the whole family should meet him before adoption. Miles is currently in foster care and requires an advance appointment to meet him.

Still looking for a new home: White Tail

Meet White Tail, one of the smartest dogs you will ever meet. White Tail is a mature dog at 7 years of age, but still has a lot of energy in the tank. He is an Australian Cattle Dog mix who weighs in at 48 pounds and has dappled white fur with a black head and spots. White Tail came to the SPCA of Texas from a hoarding case in Hunt County. He was a very fearful dog upon his arrival but has made Olympic-level strides since then. In fact, White Tail is now the only dog at the SPCA of Texas who is considered staff (and has his own name badge to prove it). He has excelled at not only coming out of his shell but helping the behavior staff calm the nerves of new fearful dogs coming into the program. He is absolutely adored by the staff but deserves to find his own forever home too. He is housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center and requires an appointment. The $25 adoption special has been extended through June as the SPCA still has more than 1,000 animals in its care.

Still looking for a new home: Deena

Meet Deena, a seven-and-a-half-year-old Terrier, American Pit Bull mix who is sporting some serious puppy dog eyes. She has a light buff and white coat and weighs in at 39 pounds. She is currently hoping for a forever home at the SPCA of Texas. Deena walks well on a leash and takes her treats very gently. She has a bit of energy behind her but loves to loaf around on sofas too. Deena tested positive for heartworms and has been receiving treatment from the staff at the SPCA of Texas. She is doing well but will need to return to the clinic for some treatments in the near future. Deena would do best as the only dog in the home, as sometimes other dogs can be mean (and she can be a little bossy). A meet-and-greet is required for any children under 10 years of age, and anyone else in the home should visit her at the shelter too. To meet Deena, come and visit her at our Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas any day between noon and 6 p.m.

Still looking for a new home: Rooster

Meet Rooster, a young and spunky Shepherd mix who is a lot of fun. He weighs in at 53 pounds and is just over a year-and-a-half old. He is a wannabe track star and looks for any opportunity to accelerate to full speed. Rooster is a funny guy who loves to jump around a lot and he’s pretty skilled at wiggling as well. He would love to have a home with a big yard with a secure fence where he could run and play at his leisure. He might be a good second dog, just be sure to bring in the first pooch to the shelter for a meet-and-greet with Rooster before adopting. Any children in the home should come and meet Rooster too. To meet Rooster, come and visit him at our Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas any day between noon and 6 p.m.

Still looking for a new home: Bashful

Meet Bashful, a Terrier, Pit Bull and Retriever mix who is just over two years old and is a larger dog. As her name suggests, she is somewhat reserved around new people or animals. Bashful came to the SPCA of Texas as the result of an animal cruelty case and has spent some time learning to have faith in the world again. She is quite friendly with the right companion dogs, and actually might do better with a furry friend to show her the ropes. Kids are not really her speed, and would be best in a home with older teens or adults. A calm environment is ideal for Bashful. A dog like this really needs a yard with a secure fence of at least six feet in height. Like all dogs from the SPCA of Texas, Bashful has been spayed and is current on all her vaccinations and she is currently housed at the Russell E. Dealey Rescue Center, so it is necessary to set up an appointment to visit her in advance. She is available under the foster-to-adopt program to be sure of a perfect fit.

Still looking for a new home: Brooklyn

Meet Brooklyn, a three-year-old female Retriever Labrador mix who is available for adoption at the SPCA of Texas’ Russell E. Dealey Rescue Center in Dallas. She is a large dog with a lot of energy, and really loves people. According to the rescue staff, she gets a case of the wiggles when meeting a new human friend, and she has a pretty serious happy dance to share. Brooklyn came to the SPCA of Texas with other dogs and has done well with her neighbors at the shelter. She is a flexible dog and should do well in just about any healthy environment. Like all pets at the SPCA of Texas, Brooklyn has been spayed, microchipped and is current on all vaccinations. To meet Brooklyn, call the SPCA of Texas and make an appointment as she is housed at the rescue center with controlled access.

Still looking for a new home: Jimbo

Meet Jimbo, a 3-year-old mixed breed boy who is a big bundle of love! He came to the SPCA of Texas as a stray, and now he’s ready to find his forever home! Jimbo is full of energy and loves to go outside to play and explore. When he’s not sniffing out his next adventure, he loves to be petted and will lean into you for all the scratches. Jimbo is open to meeting other dogs, and gets along with just about everyone he meets. Like all pets at the SPCA of Texas, Jimbo has been neutered, microchipped and is current on vaccinations.. To meet Jimbo, come visit him at our Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas any day between noon and 6 p.m.

Still looking for a new home: Jimbob

Meet Jimbob, a goofy, 8-year-old Mixed Breed pup who doesn’t let his age slow him down one bit! Despite being a senior, he has plenty of energy and spunk to keep him active. He’s a bouncy guy, hopping in delight when you visit him and give him attention. He’s working on learning commands like sit, and is happy to sit still in exchange for a snack. Jimbob has a silly name and an even sillier personality – he’s sure to make his new family smile with his antics. Like all pets at the SPCA of Texas, Jimbob has been neutered, microchipped and is current on vaccinations. To meet Jimbob, come visit him at our Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center any day between noon and 6 p.m.

Still looking for a new home: Tanner Rose

Meet Tanner Rose, a friendly, 8-year-old Australian Cattledog mix who is ready to find her new family! Tanner Rose is a special girl who came to us from an animal cruelty investigation. After coming to the SPCA of Texas, they learned that Tanner Rose is deaf. She may not be able to hear, but that doesn’t hold her back! She loves to be petted, especially behind her ears and on her head. She also loves treats, and her little nub of a tail wags and wags when she knows food is coming. This sweet senior would love a home where she can spend lots of time cuddled up on the couch, eating tasty treats and just hanging out with her people. Tanner Rose is waiting to meet you at our Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center. To meet her, come visit her any day between noon and 6 p.m.

Still looking for a new home: Peanut

Meet Peanut, a 2½-year-old Mixed Breed who is always ready to play and have fun. Peanut is a bionic dog – he might not be able to walk through a metal detector without setting it off, but at least he can play again! After two knee surgeries, he will always need to take it easy and not jump off porches or furniture to avoid putting additional stress on his joints, but Peanut doesn’t let anything slow him down. Peanut is a strong puller, so he might do better in a home with a yard where he can get a little time to get his energy out before walking on the leash, or at least someone who doesn’t mind very brisk walks. Peanut is super smart and loves cheese treats, so he’s already picked up both “sit” and “stay.” Peanut would greatly benefit from additional training to keep his mind sharp and improve his manners. He can get a little over excited especially first thing in the morning, so he’d love a home with kids 12 and up. Peanut is polite to other dogs on his walks and would like to meet any dogs in the home before adoption. Peanut is waiting to meet you at SPCA of Texas Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center.
