Still looking for a home: Daphne.

Meet Daphne, a 1 ½-year-old, black Pit Bull mix weighing 45-pounds. She’s a pint sized pup with a big heart! She’s fun-loving, playful and smart. She loves to go for walks or runs, play with toys and spend time outdoors. She loves to play fetch, tug and just about anything involving playtime! Even though she loves to have fun, she is very well-mannered. She appears to be house trained, is already crate trained and knows basic commands like sit and lie down. She isn’t a fan of sharing her toys, so she may do best in a home with teens and adults only. If you have another dog at home, please bring them for a meet and greet to see if they get along. If you’re looking for an adorable pup to keep you active, she’s the one for you! Daphne has been spayed, micro-chipped and has received all age-appropriate vaccinations. Come meet her today! #164057

Still waiting for a home: Finigan

Meet Finigan, a 7 ½-year-old, white Great Pyrenees mix weighing 92-pounds. He’s a big boy with an even bigger heart! He’s a great snuggler! He’s looking for a home with a nice fenced in yard to play in. He knows sit, stay, come, down, shake and fetch! He’s also completely house trained and he’s great with kids. He also got along great with both dogs and cats in his previous home, but it's best to feed him separately because he tends to get protective of that good stuff! He doesn't like to be alone so he'd love a home where someone is around a lot to keep him company, and will crate him when left alone. If you're looking for a great family dog to cuddle and play with, he’s your guy! Finigan has been neutered, microchipped and has received all age-appropriate vaccinations. Come meet him today! #166176

Meet Miss Ginger, a 3-year-old, black and white Pit Bull mix weighing 65-pounds. She’s an outgoing, friendly girl who loves people! She likes making new friends, going for walks and learning tricks for treats! She walks well on her leash and knows how to sit on command. She gets along with children, rides well in the car and loves attention from people. She is particular about her dog friends, so she may do best as an only dog. Because of her high energy, she would do best in a home without small children. If you’re looking for an affectionate pup to cuddle with, she’s the one for you! Miss Ginger has been spayed, microchipped and current on all age-appropriate vaccinations. Come meet her today! #164778

She can be a little shy around new people, but once she gets to know you she’s a total love! She likes lots of attention from people, especially children, gets along with other dogs and prefers to hang out with other ladies. She is loving, affectionate and make a great cuddly companion. She does get stressed when she’s left alone, so she would do best with a family who will not need to leave her by herself all day. If you’re looking for a calm girl to keep you company, she’s the one for you! Honey Sue has been spayed, microchipped and is current on all age-appropriate vaccinations. He enjoys games of fetch, wrestling with other dogs and playing with kids. He knows how to sit on command and is ready to learn even more cool tricks from his new family. He’d love a home with a large yard to run in and lots of people to play with. If you have other dogs at home, bring them to meet him to see if they’re a good match. Still waiting for a home: Buster

Meet Buster, a 9-year-old Boxer mix with a great personality! After living in a home his whole life, he was pretty sad and confused to find himself in a shelter. Despite his age, he has plenty of pep in his step and lots of love to give! His favorite things are treats, plush toys (the squeakier the better), getting attention from people, and snuggling. He’s great with kids and would love a home where kids will throw toys for him! He knows sit, come, and shake! Not to brag, but he’s pretty good at puzzle games and almost always guesses which hand you're hiding a treat in. To top it off, he walks well on leash and is completely housebroken. Does it get any better than that? He’s a sweet, gentle soul and would love a quiet home with a loving family. If you’re looking for a fun-loving boy to join your family, he’s the one for you! Buster has been neutered, microchipped and has received all age-appropriate vaccinations. Come meet him today! #165166

SPCA of Texas Receives $5,000 from Maddie's Fund® to Support New Working Cats Initiative

(DALLAS, TX/McKINNEY, TX), March 1, 2019 - The SPCA of Texas is thrilled to announce that it has received a generous grant in the amount of $5,000 from Maddie's Fund®, a national family foundation established by Dave and Cheryl Duffield to revolutionize the status and well-being of companion animals, to provide supplies for the SPCA of Texas' new Working Cats Initiative, which is part of the organization’s Adoptions Program. This initiative will prepare indoor cats, who have come in through animal cruelty situations, for jobs in warehouses, storage facilities, offices, police stations, restaurants and other locations that need rodent control.

The SPCA of Texas' Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit (ACI) rescued almost 600 cats from inhumane conditions last year. A large portion of these cats were saved from hoarding situations and because they never lived outdoors, they are not good candidates for a traditional barn cat program. They also can't be adopted as house pets or returned to their previous location because they are unsocialized. The SPCA of Texas' Working Cats Initiative will give these cats a second chance by preparing them to be working cats. They will be sterilized, vaccinated, microchipped, and ear-tipped before starting their jobs and they will be acclimated to their new environment. The cat’s employer will be provided with food, bedding, a litter box, and litter during the acclimation period and will be instructed on how to care for the cat.

The ultimate goal for this initiative is to save the lives of unsocialized cats. There are many cats in local shelters that are euthanized for being unsocial and because they are not eligible for Trap-Neuter-Return programs. The SPCA of Texas hopes to help 100 cats in the first year of this life-saving initiative. The SPCA of Texas is able to provide exceptional care for these animals thanks to this generous grant from Maddie's Fund®.

If your business is interested in employing a working cat, contact workingcats@spca.org. Learn more about the initiative at www.spca.org/workingcats.
