SPCA Pet Adoption, May 11, 2025

The SPCA of Texas Dallas Animal Care Center is open for adoptions every day from noon to 6:00 PM. Animals are available by walk-in on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are also available for select animals. Animals at the Jan Rees-Jones building don't need an appointment. Some of the SPCA dogs up for adoption are temporarily housed in the Russell E. Dealey Rescue Center. This overflow area for adoptable animals is nearby but is accessible by appointment only. These adult dogs and adult cats are at the SPCA of Texas' Dallas Animal Care Center and our Ellis County Animal Care Center (2570 FM Road 878, Waxahachie, TX).  Adoptions are sponsored by the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center. There's one exception—when a senior adopts a senior pet, age seven or older the adoption fee is waived. Puppies and kittens under the age of six months are $150. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of MetLife Insurance, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.

It is "Empty the Shelters" time at the SPCA of Texas through Thursday, May 15th, featuring $25 adult pet adoptions and $50 puppy and kitten adoptions.

Ongoing Special: Senior citizens (over 65) can adopt any senior animal (over age 7) for free!

Looking for a new home: Brutus

Meet Brutus, a 72-pound black Labrador retriever mix who has many of the typical Lab attributes: He loves people, is playful, sweet, and has a big laughing grin. This two-year-old has soft floppy ears and a shiny coat. Brutus is great with people and other dogs and young children, but it is always advised to bring family members and dogs down to meet any dog you're considering adopting. Still looking for a new home: Scarlett

Meet Scarlett, a two-year-old 32-pound Labrador-Cattle dog mix, who despite missing one of her back legs, gets around well. She has a short red and white spotted coat, lovely floppy ears and dark soulful eyes. Scarlett loves people, including small children, and other dogs. She's technically being listed as a foster because she has a medical recheck (due to the leg amputation) coming up soon before she is offically ready to be adopted. Bring the family and dogs down to meet any dog you're considering adopting or fostering. She is a confident and strong pooch who thrives on attention but is "low maintenance." Meet Balto, a 74-pound Alaskan Husky pup who is a bundle of joyful energy. He loves kids, other dogs, squeaky toys, and at nine-months-old, has one blue eye and one brown and and has many classic puppy attributes such as a love of attention, belly rubs, and did we mention other dogs? It's always a good idea to bring the family and dogs down to meet any animal you are consider adopting. Meet Jerome, a goofy and intelligent two-year-old Australian Kelpie/Shepherd mix. This intelligent 67-pound boy is treat motivated (but takes them very gently!) He walks well on a leash and loves long walks. The SPCA folks say he needs a fenced backyard. He's good with kids under 12 and other dogs, but it's always a good idea to bring the kids and dogs down to meet any pooch you plan to adopt. Meet Acorn, a 5-year-old mixed breed with some boxer and pit in the blend. He's 64 pounds of goofy playfulness. He is described as smart, affectionate, curious, and a calming presence. Acorn is good with children under 12 years and with other dogs, but it's always a good idea to take the kids and dogs down to meet any dog you plan to adopt. Meet Duchess, a beautiful gray/silver pittie mix who weighs 59 pounds. At one-year-old, she may grow a bit more, but is considered adult. She is active, adventurous, affectionate, curious, and smart. Duchess is great with other dogs and with children, though it is always a good idea to bring the kids and dogs down to meet any animal you're considering adopting. She is at the Dallas Animal Care Center, so she can be seen from noon to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Meet Rayden, a 2-year-old mixed breed (looks like lots of pitbull terrier) with a flat smooth white and black coat and a big happy smile. He loves people, loves walking on a leash, is house trained and is treat motivated. At 65-pounds Rayden is full-grown snuggler who is mellow and friendly. He's okay with children under age 12 and with other dogs. It's always a good idea to bring the family and dogs down to meet any dog you're considering adoption. Meet Caroline, a seven-year-old mixed hound and beagle who tips the scales at 69 pounds. This friendly girl has a beautiful black and white dappled short coat, with dark mask and ears and a lovely smile. Caroline is mellow, friendly, gentle, and cuddly. She's good with kids under 12-years of age and with other dogs, and is at the Dallas Animal Care Center, so you can meet her any day from noon till 6pm. Meet Sammie, a lovely pure-white Siberian husky with stunning blue eyes. At 18 months she's a big pup and may grow a bit more. Now she is 55 pounds. This dog is intelligent, eager to learn, is energetic and playful but gentle, and is good with children under 12 and with other dogs. She's a cuddler when the occasion arises. Sammie is one of the dogs available for the "foster-to-adopt" program, to take her home and see how she fits with other dogs and the family. Email foster@spca.org to learn about that possibility. Meet Galvin, an American Blue Heeler mix who is almost two years old and 49 pounds. He has a merle or marbled coat with tan and white accents and the classic blue heeler face mask (dark over his eyes). Galvin is friendly, gentle, and loving with people, is good with kids under 12 and other dogs, and is in need of a foster or foster-to-adopt situation. It's always a good idea to bring the family and dogs down to meet any dog you're considering adopting.
