Tire Gardening

NEVER USE TIRES IN YOUR GARDEN

Q:  I am interested in tire gardening but I have heard comments that indicate that it would  be almost toxic suicide.  L.R., North Carolina

A:  Tires do contain some toxic materials but I don't know how much they release to contaminate soil and plant roots. I would suggest the use of   cinder blocks. They can be stacked into various shapes and changed if needed. I use them with the holes pointing up and fill them with lava sand.  Concrete wall systems and natural stone are even better.
