HYACINTH 

Hyacinthus spp.           (HI-ah-sinth-us)

         

Perennial         Sun      Height. 3- 12 inches   

Spread 3- 12 inches      Spacing 6- 9 inches

 

HABIT:              Vertical foliage in spring followed by dramatic flower spike of almost any color. Extremely fragrant.

 

CULTURE:         Well-prepared, well-drained soil; moderate water and fertilizer requirements. Add rock phosphate to soil when planting.

USES:               Spring color, fragrance.

PROBLEMS:      Expensive for the show.

NOTES:             Plant bulbs in December for early spring flowers. Plants will return but will be quite weak. Better to plant new ones again. Muscari is the small grape hyacinth and is much better at returning each year.
